ACMRS Open Access Initiative

We must transform the way premodern texts are taught so that every person can see themselves in the archive. We publish projects that are historically grounded and theoretically and pedagogically expansive, with the aim of fostering dialogues that reach into the present moment and point us to different, more inclusive, futures. All scholarly titles are published in print and are available to read for free on our open access platform.

The Bard in the Borderlands Volume 2

For several decades, Chicanx and Indigenous theatermakers have been repurposing Shakespeare’s plays to reflect the histories and lived realities of the US–Mexico Borderlands and to create space to tell stories of and for La Frontera. Celebrating this rich tradition, The Bard in the Borderlands: An Anthology of Shakespeare Appropriations en La Frontera Vol 2 brings together another open access collection.

Shakespeare reimagined

Play On Shakespeare is a series of new translations of thirty-nine Shakespeare plays. These translations present work from “The Bard” in language accessible to modern audiences while never losing the beauty of Shakespeare’s verse. Enlisting the talents of a diverse group of contemporary playwrights, screenwriters, and dramaturges, this project reenvisions Shakespeare for the twenty-first century. These volumes make these works available for the first time in print—a new First Folio for a new era.

Access-driven publishing

ACMRS Press publishes the most forward-looking, theoretically expansive, and vanguard research in premodern studies. We aim to break down the traditional barriers to scholarly knowledge and publishing by making all of our scholarly catalog available open access and by supporting our authors through a transparent publishing process.
